Kdo, kdo, kdo so pa to?. Pesemsko izročilo z Domžalskega.
Who, who, who could they be?. Traditional songs from the Domžale region.

Authors: Marija Klobčar, Urša Šivic
Year: 2023

The sound release, symbolically marked by the mocking song Who, who, who could they be? is the first in a series of releases presented in the Etnofon collection. The chosen title does not refer to the transience of this sound carrier, but to the diversity of the song tradition of the selected area. The songs presented in the publication are a well-considered selection of material recorded in the decades following the Second World War in the economically developed area of the Bistrica Plain between Trzin, Mengš, Dob and Ihan. Historically, life in this area was rather characterized by Mengeš, while in the mid-19th century the area of today's Domžale became increasingly important due to the industrial production of straws. Straw production, which had already shaped Ihan and its surroundings as a local craft, was based on knitting straw braids, and this activity provided exceptional opportunities for socializing and singing. The songs presented here also recall the gatherings after working together in the fields, which were typical of the large farms of the Bistrica Plain, and the singing of the village boys. The transience of the selected area is reflected in the typological diversity of the material, in which some old ballads stand out, as well as in the particularity of carols associated with straw production.
