You are warmly invited to attend the keynote lecture by Prof. Pieter M. Judson, which will take place as part of the international symposium Ours, Yours, Theirs, No One’s? Heritage of Multicultural Areas.
Pieter M. Judson is one of the most prominent historians of the Habsburg Monarchy and Central Europe. He is a professor at the European University Institute in Florence and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. From 2014 to 2024, he held the Chair in Nineteenth and Twentieth Century History at the EUI. Before that, he taught history and international relations at Swarthmore College for 21 years.
His scholarly works – most notably The Habsburg Empire: A New History – are of fundamental importance for understanding identity dynamics and nationalism in multilingual and multicultural empires. His books have been translated into several languages, and his lectures offer new insights into Europe’s complex past.
We invite you to join us in reflecting on identity, heritage, and the processes of heritagization in (former) multicultural regions.
We look forward to your participation!
